I've been thinking about getting a tarantula lately, and was just wondering what would be the best to get for a beginner. I'm not planning on getting one anytime soon, I'll be moving to a new apartment after this semester, maybe sometime after that. Just wanted some opinions.

that depends weather you want to hold it or not....
to hold id recoment a curley hair or a chilli rose
but just to cair for 90% of the spiders require all the same to look after
humidity high because otherwise they wont be able to move as there joints will stiffen up
a good deep bed of soil so they can burrow they can go with or without light,
but in my expierences of tarantula's they can tame down like most reptiles, but seen as all tarantula's will always have the venom in their fangs it might be a bit dangerious esp with some species to tame down

hope that helps in any way

FRom all the good beginner species I looked at the chaco gold knee stuck out, they are known to be very docile, and get larger than most other Ts that seem to be recommended by most. Plus I love they way they look, I got a 1/2 in spiderling, it should be here tomorrow or friday.

You shouldn't hold or handle tarantulas. It is dangerous for them, as it is for you. There are ways to do it, but most experts will tell you the same thing. They are best viewed, and therefore enjoyed from behind glass. There are docile species, but again, handling them can be dangerous for them, as if they fall even a short distance from your hand, can kill them.
