I have a German question for you...In the German language, is the name Shafer (with two dots on the a) pronounced with the long A sound like ape or with a short a like apple?

My daughter wants to know. :) She's obsessed with all things German, but none of her German friends speak English. They communicate through Google translator.

 that is so cute.Yes, it's with the two dots on top of the a and it's like ape.Shafer translatet means the guy who takes care of the sheep out in the field.I forgot what you call him in english .

That would be shepherd...interesting. She's a big fan of the German bands Tokio Hotel and Cinema Bizarre (sorry to hijack thread...I'll take it to pm) and wanted to pronounce the names correctly.
