My female is preparing to hibernate. but she wont poop. i have always read to be sure they have an empty stomach before hibernation or it can kill them. i really cut back her feeding, and still nothing. the last week all she can had was a pretty large chick and some boiled egg. i gave her egg because it normally makes them go and still nothing. i gave her a nice warm bath and still nothing. I am afraind to cut down thier heat before she goes. is there anything i can do?

Have you tried any fruit yet. Mine tends to go almost immediately after eating banana.

If you are convinced it's blockage, you can always go the enema route as a last resort...

Is there any swelling or redness around the cloaca (however you spell it, new word alert).

i havent noticed any swelling or redness, but i will double check when i get home from work.

i really hope i dont have to go the enema route because it took forever to gain her trust, i will if need be but is there anything else.

now i would never try this without vet approval but could i crush a little bit of laxitive in some egg or something would that help or is that way to risky.

Good luck with the vet; I've never found one that knows anything about reptiles...

Sounds like it would be a good idea to get some fresh fruit and ideally some fibre down your tegu. Easier said than done I'm sure.

With bearded dragons its easy to make a slurry of say finely chopped dandelions and bananas with a little warm water and maybe a couple of drops of olive oil, and to force feed them two or three teaspoonfuls. This does the trick!

I wouldn't know how to do this with a tegu mind...

Mark.

Mark, I know it's a bit of a trek for you, but the vet I use is called Ambivet's in Heanor.

The number is 01773717780

There's two people there who do exotics, one is an allrounder (the female) and the other is specialised to reptiles, and seems to know his onions. It was the female who advised the "bleach" solution for the gecko's tail that broke tho, so try and avoid her.
