She climbed up to the top of my head, and leaped off "Nothing unusual for this one" - Must of have landed wrong and snapped it's tail - I did not notice at 1st as she seemed just fine - Picked her up and she behaved normal as if nothing had happened - Than I noticed a little blood and found that the tail was only holding on by a few tissue - Could bend it 90 degrees at the break - I put in her in the Rubbermaid with some warm water, and she shook the remaining part of the tail off...

It was a clean break and should grow back fine "I hope" - I've been keeping it clean - I know I've read that this is more disheartening to the keeper than the kept, and I would agree with that - Pretty amazing to me that immediately after, a few hours after, and today - There was no change in behavior whatsoever - like it never happened...

She went from this ...

Chaitzams Ameiva seems to be the best resemblance from the vague info I can find on Ameiva's - Just a simple setup now - I used to keep a log and plants in there, however the crickets would hide in cracks in the log, and she would just tear up the plants so I took them out as well...

OK maybe I lied lol - My Ameiva still has this "Stick" in her enclosure - When I remember to put it back in after cleaning and misting, however she does not to seem to give a sheet either way - This post made me go take another pic - That of my Ameiva's behavior and 3 of my 4 Teiids behavior - This is what my Ameiva does when it is bedtime - Have not seen her burrow in 3 months...

As well as my Black and my Argentine - They are comfortable just sleeping in their hides - I would associate this with that they feel comfortable and secure enough that their is no threat to them and they know me well enough - We spend alot of time together on a daily basis "handled daily" and I believe that to be a very key factor in all Teiids... 13 out of 14 days "on average" my Argentine does not sleep in a hide at all, and sleeps out in the open right on top of the substrate...

lol, the covering of the burrow entrance is classic ameiva behavior. In trying to identify your species have you noticed a degree of confusion in the taxonomy of ameivas? i certainly have. Also have you noticed your ameivas do the snake like tail wiggle as is seen in tegus, here's a link of some of my pix http://www.repticzone.com/forums/Tegus/messages/497070.html lemme know what you think

Yes much confusion - Seems like every site you visit for info, classifies them differently. I've never saw her do the snake tail wiggle, and probably wont for a while till it grows back - My Tegu's do it though - Good looking set-up you got there

this is the most complete and reliable list i could find on ameiva species, there's 32 listed, where i have seen sites that say only 15, i dunno check it out
