Awww. I'm so jealous. I want to do that :( , too. What grade level do you take the Tegus to ? Do you ever take him out of the bin and let the kids touch the Tegu ? What do you talk about when you are in the class and for how long do you stay ?

We use one of our tegus for parties and programs. One is very touchable and is great outside and one is better on a table as a display for indoor. My red was the king of large presentations indoors, but he's gone. Not many people have seen tegus so they are a great hit. They look big and scary with the tongue, but are pretty laid back, so they win a lot of fans.

I talk about where they are from, what they eat (people are surprised they eat fruit), what the tongue is used for, their ears, the tail, hibernation...it really depends on the ages of the kids. I also have a variety of animals that come so it's not just tegus. I also usually just use tegus for older groups (depending on the tegu) because sometimes the noise of preschoolers startles them.
