I have been using Eco Earth (Hagen's) "forest floor bedding" Its basically just like all the other types of moss bedding out there. It holds humidity well, and I use it in all my humid...
I was bit by my burm...wich was my fault..totally. But It wasnt too bad and I washed it with soap and I was fine.
I personally use straw. I think people shy away from it because you shouldnt get it wet, but in my experience its fine because I have a humid hide for my tegu and he has shed well and he has been on...
Zilla is always licking hands, sometimes if he smells someones hands before they pet him, he seems less concerned when they go to pet him, he pretty much ignores them. Sort of like a dog

If he isnt i think you will just have to live with it. All the bigger lizrds I've interacted with all had horrible smelling poo
I love those guys. My very first reptile was a horned toad, bought illegally from some guys at a reptile show. But hey! I was only nine. It was funny, a few minutes after we left the show, some cops...

Well, I can only share my experience, and I dont know how other people's tegus react to plants, but mine always digs the plant up regardless of the type.

Around this time last year i suggested to Rick that we have a Tegu/Reptile inspired tattoo contest, but he had some issues and we never set the contest up...
I am not siding one way or the other yet on the fat content, but havent people frequently used (with success) rat pups to fatten up skinnier herps?
