Even if your Tegu was spending 90% of his life inside a cage, I would consider a 6x3x2 feet enough for 1 adult tegu.
They aren't very active and spend and good time hiding under ground.

Well adding ''floor'' of your cage might be a good idea to add more space, however, it might add more difficulty for building and cleaning. But if I would add floor to a cage, I would make them 24...
I used to work in a reptile farm, and I've seen many ''mix'' that we're most of the time unsuitable for two reptile.
I've seen mix like :
-Iguana and boa constrictor (strangely, all of them we're...
Well it can take a lot of time to ''tame'' an animal. You could continue this method, or letting the animal to come by himself to you.
You have also to remember that each reptile has their...
I don't think that 2 month with a ''expired'' uva/uvb light might be the cause of his death. If you still have the beardie in a freezer you could bring him to a vet so he could do a necropsy on the...
hmmm I'm not sure...If I understood correctly...but are you saying that your bearded dragon died because the UVB light was expired for a couple of week?
Yeah don't worry, Blackthroat monitor are pretty nervous at first, but usually calm down and socialise faster than Savannah monitor. As for feeding, no surprise, these guy can become huge. A 6 feet...
With all the reptile I had work with, the burmese python has the worst poop odor.
As for food, I can't really agree, I have two tortoise, one Hermann and one redfoot, both of them are fed...
Well if you look at geckos, who are invertebrate eater, they still don't need uva/uvb lamp and can live healthy without one.
Being ectothermic, reptile needs to consume less food than mammals...
no problem ;)
Well If I remember correctly, they absorb or synthetize (don't remember exactly) the good necessary amount of vitamin d3 in their food.
Also, it's not because the animal is diurnal that it needs...
The heating lamp might be okay. But I believe that once your Savannah monitor will be a adult, a bigger lamp would be better. I had used Halogen floodlight lamp for all my reptile for many years....
Savannah monitor are generally a well behaved monitor. They aren't as curious as tegu, they are pretty shy.
They need a pretty big cage too, just like tegus, they will need at least a 6x3x2feet...
Well like pikey said, it's a touchy subject.
My personnal choice would be a 6x3x2 for an argentine black and white tegu.
I never said that tegu weren't intelligent because they don't come to us. I just said that due of their small intelligence compare to mammals (Most of them are more intelligent than any reptile) it...
Well I disagree about the training part. Reptile can be trained just like any other animal. But you have to use positive reinforcement to each good action that look satisfying for you. The best way,...
Yeah, but still, he didn't answer my email and i'm ready to receive an trash email full of insult lol, that's how Quebecer Reptile keeper react when you argue with them or say that they are wrong lol
Hi guys, I got an answer from the seller.
Unfortunatly the seller want to sell me the Tegu for 70$ which is too much for an unhealthy animal (imo) . He told me that he only used a 80W bulb and no...
Yes, I asked him and I proposed him 50$ for the tegu, I'm still waiting for a response.
Thank you everyone, I'll try to deal the tegu price to 50$ and need more information about the temperament, the owner is like 1 hours of distance in car from my home, so I really need more info about...
Hi, I found a tegu for sale in Canada, unfortunatly the animal is undoubtly in bad shape due of the information given by the owner about how he took care of the animal.
Here are the info :...
post a picture of this ear, so we can help you.
Well, I don't know, usually petshop or petstore will sell ''reptile halogen heating lamp'' which might be more expensive (because it's written ''reptile on it) and cost more in energy. (like 125W,...
I kept my monitor with halogen lamp bought at home depot/canadian tire/etc. They are cheaper, are energy-wise and have a bigger heating surface.
They don't need UVA/UVB lamp it's not a necessity for them.
