Exclamation Urgent need help with boa!

    hey guys,

I was checking the animals out after I got home today and noticed my baby Red Tail Boa had a....redish....bag ....like a gland or something hanging out of his vent. Is it prolapse like with lizards? If it is I don't know how it could've happened. I got him on September 18th a reptile show. His humidty has been like 50% to 60%. hot spot is 85. Clean water...no bugs....plenty of food. he eats two small mice aweek. What went wrong? right now I have him soaking in sugar water. what else should I do? Oh and he has been in the water for an hor and the bulge is slightly smaller and almost clear instead of bloody like it was

    thanks, Randy

I think it's a prolapse, but I would bring him to the vet ASAP just to make sure.

For the moment, let the animal inside a clean enclosure with paper towel.
Make sure the animal is soak frequently and that the temperature are good. I would have a basking spot of 90-92F.

I hate to say it...but i have no money for the vet. I cannot even afford the vet's financing plan. Its frusterating. I'm taking him to a freinds today who has dealt with this issue before. i read some articles and looked at it a bit more. it seems like you're right Ben. I have him on paper towels and soaking in sugar water. it look like it has (possibly) started to go back. he pooped a little too. What could've caused this though?

    Interesting article:

    http://bamboozoo.weebly.com/snake-he...-prolapse.html

Perhaps reduce the amount of food for a time to allow it to heal and increase the humidity to 70%.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your pet. Even though you didn't have him for very long, I know it's rough when you take care of something and nurse it in times of illness, then it doesn't pull through. You did your best; thank you for trying to save the snake.
