Thread: Best calcium dust, anyone have suggestions?

Default Best calcium dust, anyone have suggestions?

I was told that most calcium with no d3 have oyster shell in them, which isn't ideal for the digestive system of Tegus, does anyone have info on proper calcium dust, or which do and don't have the ground oyster shell? I have FLUKER'S calcium dust with D3 which I'm not sure if it has oyster shell, and haven't been able to find out.

    I think flukers is oyster.
    I use Zoo-Med Reptical w/o D3
It's not made from oyster and it sticks to everything very well.

Sure thing, I'll have to stock up on the Zoo Med brand. I've been hearing that's what everyone prefers.

what I've heard/read is that Zoo-Med is the only brand that is not made of oyster shells. You can tell because it is pure white instead of grey.

What are peoples thoughts on Cuttlebone?? I remember years ago before herp supplies were as available as they are no I was told to shave some cuttlebone on my reptiles food. Obviously no D3 but how is it for actual calcium supplement?? I found some info on people using it for birds, turtles, and tortoises but nothing on reptiles ( I assume it is not a sufficient source?)

I agree on the Zoo-Med, I also use it to dust my Leopard Gecko's crickets.

You can shave cuttlebone, but I don't think it's more advantageous than using a good powder with all the work done for you.

The issue is not that oyster shell is a poor calcium source, but there was concern over lead contamination.

I thought the concern over oyster shell was that is wasn't as easily digestible/absorbed.
