Exclamation Crazy idea, but seemed to work AWESOMELY

OK i was sitting watching TV and was thinking about the lizards & thinking there has to be a better way to get them to eat fruit & take vitamins with out mixing it in turkey. (cuz some reason now Jonesy & harley will not eat the mix any more) & then it hit me...... wait for it....... wait for it...... wait for it.

    BAM

    Stuffed Rats

So i got on the computer and ordered a "Flavor Injector/Syringe"
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130480642208

It came in the mail yesterday (so excited) so today i tossed some mellon, banana, apples, vitamin powder, & cod liver oil in the blender. (turned it in to a fine mush.)
    took some pre-killed rats.
Med. for Jonesy (slid the needle down the rats throat and filled it with 50ml of mush)
a Large-Small for penny (filled with 35ml of mush)
a Med-Small of Harley (filled with 25ml of mush)

They all downed them (well penny kinda "popped" hers)
It worked so well i will recommend this to Anyone that has a very picky eater or is trying to rehab a sick or neglected tegu, or just want to up the vitamin intake on a tegu with a bad shed.

Awesome idea! I just started cutting up greens and mixing with turkey and Dezie and Lucy both took it but I am going to keep my eye out for this.

All of mine took to fruit but it doesn't hurt to have another trick up the sleeve for them. Something else to add to the arsenal of keeping them on point even when they don't want to cooperate.

At first I thought, what a lot of work to clean out that blender every morning. Then I remembered, when we were first convincing our boy to eat fruit, I'd get out my dissecting kit and surgically implant a half a grape under the loose skin of each armpit of a thawed hopper mouse. I'd snip into the skin at the abdomen, without opening the peritoneal cavity, and separate the skin from the tissue lining of the peritoneal and thoracic sections and stuff as much fruit in there as I could. This was before we left for work each day. Fortunately, he caught on after a few weeks and learned to love the fruit on his own. This probably would have been easier.

plus you can "fill" the rats then freeze them so you dont have to use the blender all the time or fill rats every day every other day just thaw & feed

I know varnyard has had tegus that did not eat fruit/veggies at all and still lived a healthy life just like the rest. My tegu perfers not to eat any fruit only banana on occasion which I have read isn't the best fruit for them to have :X

you're right bobby doesn't feed any of his tegus fruit, but a lot of people dissagree with that.

but even if you dont want to feed them fruit, you can also use this idea to "stuff" them with Beef Liver, Turkey, or even Fish.
