Talking Yeay. Our Houdini ( black throat monitor ) is here

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that yesterday at almost 9am we got our baby black throat monitor ( Houdini ). We decided to keep that name. I was up for 24 hours because I was to excited to sleep. So I did some cleaning all night lol. Well we got him at almost 9am. My boyfriend had to go back to work. So I thought there is my chance to see if the shirt trick will work with a black throat monitor, too. I got on the bed and put Houdini in between my shirts. He was huffing a bit ( but thank God I didn't get bit yet ). I put my hand on him and very gently rubed his back and neck. He liked it allot. He fell right asleep. So did I lol. All of a sudden I heared a thump. I woke up and he was on the floor. I'm a very light sleeper and I always feld when the Tegus moved but not with him. I thought OMG how in the heck did he get away lol ? I had to chace him down for a bit. When I picked him up he pooped on me and the floor big time. I couldn't believe how much poop I saw lol. I put him in his enclosure. Today he is so much calmer. I had my hand inside the enclosure right next to him to chance the water and he didn't move or huff and puff at all. He did keep a eye on me .

Here is the link to photobucket so you can check out the rest of the photos. I got a photo on there of Houdini's poop because I couldn't believe how much a little guy like that can eat lol.

Yeah don't worry, Blackthroat monitor are pretty nervous at first, but usually calm down and socialise faster than Savannah monitor. As for feeding, no surprise, these guy can become huge. A 6 feet (male) black throat can get there quite easily with a good diet.

Careful not to get bitten by an adult during feeding, these guy can easily broke a finger or a thumb with their powerful jaws. Watch out for the tailwhip too.

By the way, he/she looks beautiful. Cool specimen you got there.

Thank you everyone . I'm so happy . I got to pick him up yesterday ( well he huffed and puffed and tail whiped a bit ). But once I got him out and put him on my chest and petted him he closed his eyes again and was very relaxed. I put him in the tub so he could eat his chicken liver with calcium/vitamine powder. He just ate a few bites but I'm so happy that he ate at all for being here just two days . But OMG, their pee stinks wors then the Tegus poop and pee lol.

Lisa. Thank you but it's not a Tegu . It's a black throat monitor.

Ben. Trust me I'm not looking forward to getting bit by a adult black throat. I just got bit by Spatzi ( male blue/red hybrid Tegu ) yesterday. It really hurt and still does. He bit me right through the middle of the nail ( the pink part ). He was so hungry that he ran against the door. When I opened the door I saw that his tounge was hanging out but his mouth was shut. I thought OMG please do not let the tounge fall of when I open his mouth. He must of had a cramp from all the pain because he couldn't open his mouth. I had to squeeze his mouth very hard to open it up. That's when I got bit. But thank God his tounge is OK.
