Default mouth rot? I'm probably just freaking myself out

But I hope its not mouth rot!

Dio's mouth has been looking a little fat lately, so I have been feeding smaller portions for about a week now in hopes that he"ll lose some weight. Today I noticed that a small patch on his gums has some red freckles and lines. It could be from being exposed when he was sleeping/basking and he just pulled his mouth open and maybe it dried out or something. There was a tiny bit of drool too, where it was red.
He is also due for a shed anyday and his mouth scales have been coming off, inside and out, could that have anything to do with it too? He definately is happy and incredibly spoiled in every other way, and I will be monitoring him like a hawk for the next few days.

Any input is appreciated! I pulled open his mouth and snapped a picture. I circled the spot that looks red, its not red on the opposite side of his head.

Does it stink? It might just be a little abrasion from something he ate or, if he's been working on a shed, maybe scraped his mouth. Check inside his mouth, the pocket between his gums and "lips," for bits of crud that may be trapped in there.

If it is stinky or if he doesn't seem to be acting himself (lethargic, seeking higher temps for longer times) I would follow my instincts and see a vet.

Here is some info for you to check out about the mouthrot. I would try to see, too, if it smells bad. Please keep us updated.
