While it has an Argentine-ish quality, I'm going for Colombian. Here are some photos of a young Colombian to compare.

And an Argentine at about 8 months, just out of hibernation

No he went missing for a few days then he reappeared and passed the next day. He came out ate for the first time then in the morning he was gone. I don't know if he got to cold it was in the low 40's for several nights or maybe he ate insulation in the walls. He hid barely eaten in almost three weeks. I got him a few days ago the guy said he was argentine but when he arrived he was not I did not think he was but the guy said e is very handleable .He is mellow once you put him on your arm he just sits there of course he will try to bolt. No biting hissing tail whipping etc. I work in the tub with him.

I'm sorry to hear about your Sampson. :( You are just having some run with lizards lately. I love my two Colombians. Oreo is fast, but Chester is like an Argentine. I got him as an adult from a member here. He is awesome. I've even taken him to kid's birthday parties before. As long as they are indoors, he's great.

Yes it has been a rough introduction to large lizards. I posted some progress I have been having with bella my savy in the other post. I have also found a local person who has a 3 foot red tegu they are looking for a home for I am done with getting anymore I have my hands full . My oldest son moved out so I must be having empty nest syndrome. So far the columbian is fine he is fast though I would not trust him roaming until he is much bigger.

You might get lucky and end up with a more mellow colombian! Some members seem to have col.'s that don't mind being touched or handled. I would say its definitely a colombian based on the pattern it has on the side of it. It's very cute though! Is this one being housed in sampsons old enclosure?
Are you thinking of getting the red tegu as well?
lol I can't really relate to the empty nest syndrome since I don't have kids yet.. BUT I did make the decision to get rid of all my old tanks, I would see them sitting in the garage and start browsing to see what I could fill it with lol.
I wish you the best of luck with your new critters, keep us posted on 'em!

The good thing about the columbian is he is not a hatchling he is 20" so he has been handled quite a bit before. It was sold to this guy as an argentine but I thought it ws columbian. I have a seperate enclosure for him. I built a 4x2x2 for now. He only huffed the first day but he will sit on your arm and be totally calm but I would never trust him not to jet. He hides alot like sampson did the first two weeks. I did end up picking up the red argentine he is about 3 feet although I have yet to measure him he is in sampson's cage. I got him on Friday he has not been held daily but you can put your hand in the cage fine he prefers to be rubbed under the chin but likes to explore more. We made alot of progress in one day I handled him in the bath then we hung out in the bathroom he was so funny he cautiously came up to me I did not even move my hand towards him then he climbed over my legs watching me the whole time. Last night I opened his cage and he crawled out towards me and roamed around. He is gorgeous and so strong I have never held an adult before. He come right up to the cage door when my two daschunds are looking in at him they have no idea what to make of him. He is bigger than they are and pays them no mind when they check him out. I am going to call my red "bogart" I need to think f a name for my columbian.

Colombians are climbers and jumpers. They'll crawl up your arm, then your shoulder, sit on your head. They'll also try to jump on furniture as you walk by stuff. They are really different, but equally fun. I do think they spend more time buried than the Argentines.
