You really don't ever want to just "leave the door cracked" for ventilation. Tegus are MASTERS of escape, especially when they're that small. You're going to want to make sure that when he's in his enclosure, he's in there securely. And by leaving the door open most of the time, you're going to lose all of the MUCH NEEDED humidity, which can be very harmful to your little one.
