    Default potting soil

What kind do you use for savs? I was the Benjamin Moore and saw whats in the pictures below. Thing is i dont know if its safe to use, so is it? I use eco earth now, but that stuff can really get expensive trying to fill a monster cage. So i'm going with the traditional cheap sand/soil mix, so is it safe to use?

Pine and cedar are potentially harmful to reptiles. If the package does not list specific ingredients, you can bet that at least pine is in there. I would not use it.

If cypress mulch is not available or expensive where you live, you might look for fine-grade orchid bark. Get the "organic" kind and not orchid "mix," which includes chemical fertilizers. I know of two brands without additives but sadly can't remember the exact names. One from Canada called something like U-Gro Organics, which is sometimes available at OSH. The other I think is of US origin, E.B. Stone Organics. These are made from fir bark.

This has so much pine, I'd give it a pass. What about peat? You can also check organic nurseries for potting soil or top soil, and mix it a bit with sand.

Thank's, so i will just give that stuff a pass. I just hope ace hardware has some dirt, and that's what i want to do with the soil/sand mix just hard finding some, i am going to ask my father to drive me to home depot, right now he is just too worried about getting some scratches out of his car from the hurricane and straighten the house back up

I personally use straw. I think people shy away from it because you shouldnt get it wet, but in my experience its fine because I have a humid hide for my tegu and he has shed well and he has been on the straw for over 6 months, and still shedding good
