    Hello,

Tegus can grow very fast. At one point Goo was growing an inch a week in length. When he got to be 2 foot long he never spent another day in a cage. As far as food goes nothing cooked or boiled that destroys nutrients and enzymes. Feed live, a healthy tegu at any size will have no problem taking approperiately sized prey.

If you are going to use eggs use fertilized eggs. Fertilized eggs are a complete whole food, unfertilized eggs typical of what most people buy are not they do not contain biotin. Suitable feeders are earthworms and nightcrawlers, fertilized eggs, button quail, mice, rats, stone fruits aka peaches, plums, nectarines etc, whole fish not fillets or parts. We do not use frozen thawed for anything fresh is nutritionally superior. At smaller sizes less fruit is used by them as their need for protein is much higher than when they are grown.

I think a lot of us would have to disagree with some of the points suggested by Digby Rigby ^^^ however just dig around some threads and make your own judgments by what you read. There is ALOT of feeding information in prior threads. and of course if you need clarification or specific questions answers, ask away!

Frozen / thawed. I forgot to mention that "fuzzies" are the next size up from pinkies.

Just to set the record straight, "Biotin is consumed from a wide range of food sources in the diet, but few are particularly rich sources. Foods with a relatively high biotin content include Swiss chard, raw egg yolk". .. Oregon State University, Linus Pauling Institute, Micronutrient Research
Note that raw yolk is a primary source. If egg whites are used the Avidin diminishes the availability of Biotin.

I would disagree with some of it, too. If the fish is fresh out of the river, pond, lake, ozean there is a high chance that it has some bacteria on the skin. If it's flash frozen it will kill the bacteria. But it is good to feed hole fish. Just when a Tegu is this small I usually give the fish filet or put the hole fish in a blender. You can give him some frozen/thawed smellts and cut it up. I do not recommend feeding live rodents like rats when the rodents is big enough to bite the Tegu. The only live ones I have given our Tegus were pinkies/fuzzies. Worms, Roaches, Crickets and others are fine. Just don't leave the left ofer feeders in the Tegu's enclosure because they can bite the Tegu and it can cause a skin infection. Here are some infos for you to check out if you like. If you are feeding some stone fruits please remove the stone/pit first. I would stay away from fruits that are high in acid.
