Hi Ryan. Welcome to our Tegu forum family and congrats on getting your new Tegu. I know your mom doesn't like any bugs/insect/feeder rodents. But it is very important for your Tegu to get some natural calcium from the feeders bones, too. You can grind up some chicken bones in a blender ( make sure the blender is strong enough ). I don't know how big your Tegu is. If he is very small you can chop up some frozen/thawed smelts ( fish ). I recommend getting some frozen feeder rodents from Rodentpro ( link below ) and put them into a blender ( I have a blender just for the lizards ).

The order I got in from Rodentpro. So you can see how well they package it. It's well worth it.

If your Tegu is a baby I would feed him every day until he is full. Don't give him to much of the bananas because they are very high in Potasium. He should get some eggs about ones or twice a week. I would give him different foods. Chicken hearts/gizzards/liver. Ground chicken/turkey/beef. Pork chops ( no bones and the fat removed ). Fish like filets like cod, tuna, salmon, tilapia, cat fish. Smelts, Sardines ( nothing out of a can ). You can cut up the meats/fish and put into a bowl. Put some warm tap water over the meat/fish. Put a plate on the bowl and let the food sit inthere for a while to warm it up ( same with frozen veggies and fruits ). After a while squeeze the food to see if it's warmed up enough but not to hot for the Tegu to eat. The food list in the link below is just a example. You can use different food. I recommend feeding your Tegu in a bin or bathtub and not inside the enclosure.

If your tegu is a baby, it is important that they have bugs.... you stated your mom doesnt like them? Is there a way around that? Feeder insects are a good portion of hatchlings diet... crickets, roaches (feeder dubia roaches, not like your average kitchen roach!) mealworms, waxworms, silkworms... etc.

I just got him/her today (cant tell if its male or female yet) and he had some ground turkey after being at his new home for like 20minutes. After roaming around for a bit he found a good place to snuggle and sleep. The Omnivore mix has freeze dried meal worms and crickets in it, so will that be okay for now?

freeze-dried bugs contain little to no nutritional value... go ahead and break one of the mealworms in half, they are hollow....

Congrats on your new Tegu. I'm happy to hear that he already ate for you. SnakeCharmr728 has a very good point. I don't want to be rude or harsh toward your mom. But sometimes you have to do things you don't like to do ( like feeding the feeder insects ). You don't have to have a full container of them ( some people bulk order the feeders ). Just enough to give him some. We are just worried that he might have some health problems after a while if he doesn't get what he needs that's all. You would have to feed your hatchling once a day until he is full ( he will wipe his mouth side to side and then walk away from the food ). He might not want to eat one day because he had a big meal the day before. That's normal. Did you read the Caresheet I gave you ( in the link above from my last reply ) ?

Yes i did read the caresheet you gave me, it was very helpful and i now know when to use the calcium with d3. ill try to convince my mom about mealworms because honestly who doesnt like cute mealworms lol. right now my tegu is burrowed into the cyprus mulch and i dont know where he is at all. i just misted the cage to keep the humidity up and put a towel over the cage so ac doesnt get in and make the cage to cool.

Good job . Please make sure that there is at least some air getting into the enclosure so he can breath. Keep up the good job. I'm glad to see that you are doing your research .
