Most likely just damaged the end bit on something. Don't be worried unless he starts loosing more of it or the tail is looking infected. I have heard of a columbian tegu eating some of its on tail though...Pretty weird.

It should be fine. You can keep it clean and put some Neosporin ointment on it. It will heal quickly and probably regrow a little, black, cartilaginous tip.

I bought a blue tegu about 10 years ago that came to me in pretty bad shape... he had lots of stuck shed that had damaged one of his hind legs (so he was limping), and his tail was being cut into by rings of stuck shed at multiple places. The day after I got him, I saw him bite the end of his own tail off because the ring had cut into flesh too much and must have been really hurting or irritating him. It was very unfortunate =/ I don't recall if he tried to swallow it or not... it was a while ago and I would have stopped him from eating it if he had tried.
