Default How do you feed your tegu?

I wonder how you feed your tegu's, i giving my guy Roaches with the reptilestick, and when its mousetime he gets it on the bowl. Should i train him to eat outside the terrarium, like in the kitchen or something. Thankful for all the help i can get!

When they are hatchlings and really suspicious and scared, I feed them on a paper plate on newspaper in their enclosure. As they get more comfortable with being outside of the enclosure, I feed them on a paper plate on newspaper in the kitchen floor. Then they graduate to being being fed on a paper plate on my screened in back porch. The Colombians stay in the kitchen since they don't care to go outside.

We feed MacGyver 100% by hand & he is as docile as a puppy. He doesn't have an enclosure though and he spends almost all of his time around people, so he does not have issues with food agression.

I don't this there is any problem with hand feeding them as long as thats not the only things he comes to associate you with. Also, even if they are tame, I wouldn't hand him them in their enclosure.

When they are hatchlings/babies I feed them inside a dark bin. When they get older I feed them inside the bathtub. This way they don't get impacted in case the food gets on the mulch and they eat the mulch, too. Allot of times our Tegus ( we have five ) eat, poop and then eat again. It's so much easier when they are in the tub because I can rinse them off before I let them roam around or put them back into their enclosures. If they already pooped then I put the food on a plate and put it on the floor.
