    Default New tegu - Ruby

    Hi all

I'm new to this forum. Bought an Argentinian black & white tegu 3 months ago (pics below), named Ruby - unsure of its gender, would anyone be able to tell from the pics?

Ruby was skittish when I first bought him/ her...but now Ruby is very tame, seeks attention and likes to sleep on our legs.

I'm not very good at telling gender at photos. Can you feel two little beads/bumps on each side of the vent? My guess from body shape would be female, but again, I'm not very good at that sort of thing.

Hi Sgun020. Welcome to our Tegu forum family and congrats on getting Ruby. He/she is very good looking. It's hard to tell on the photos if it's a male or female. How old is Ruby ? If you can't feel the BB's ( beads ) yet you might want to check for them again each month. Some males get them when they are almost a year old and some get them when they are a bit older ( depends on if they hibernated or not ). Here is how you can check for the BB's. Hope this helps.

Thank you - I will check from time to time, I have a suspicion that ruby is a female...

ruby is perhaps about 6 months old, when we bought her, the seller said she was 3 months - though he wasn't really sure himself...

Your welcome. Right now she/he is to young to tell.
