    Default Vet Question

What would a avg check up for a tegu cost? and do they need shots? Sorry for all the questions I've been asking lately, just looking out for my little guy

Edit-Does anyone have pet insurance for there tegu, and if so what does that run you per month, and what does it cover?

Cost depends on your individual vet. All my area ones charge 40-90 depending on how reptile qualified they are. Obviously I take him to the are Herp specialist, who is the $90 end.

There aren't any shots needed for a Tegu-or reptiles for that matter. Unless, of course, it is an antibiotic or something. But no routine shots are needed.

I don't HAVE pet insurance for mine, but I do know a provider. If you want I can post the link.

And never, EVER apologize for asking a stupid/large amount of questions. Ever. It shows you care, and that you are responsible..

First I would like to agree with laurarfl with her last sentence. Please feel free to ask us as many questions as you like. This is what we are here for .

I don't have any pet Insurance either. Our Vet is a Exotic Vet and I pay $45 for the visit. Unless your Tegu has some parasites he doesn't or has something else wrong with him than you don't need any shots. If you have just enough money for the Vet visit then I would just get the Tegu checked out. If he needs some meds then you can go back and pick them up when you have the money. I recommend putting some money to the side every month in case you do have to take him to the Vet ( for X rays, meds, shots ). If you are worried about parasites you always can take a stool sample to your Vet and they can check it out for you. You don't have to bring in your Tegu for that . I still would call and see how much they would charge for it.

I know....I saw my name and thought...what??? lol

Anyway, I agree with that statement.

No shots, routine visit for my herp vet is about $60. All meds, x-rays, etc are extra. VPI has exotic insurance but I've never purchased. I have so many and I would have to insure them individually.

I know how you feel Laura. We have allot of pets, too. I found out it's cheaper to save up and pay when you have to go then pay every month for so many animals.
