Not sure. I didn't care much for what kind of red it was. Just glad I left that day with a nice little red.

Hey everyone, just letting you all know that I talked to the man I bought it from today. He said the reason it doesn't eat meal worms is because it wasn't fond of them. He said he fed it crickets and roaches. I picked up 12 large crickets to test it out and it hunted them all down quickly. Thanks for the help everyone.

awwwww so cute! my little one also shows a bit of jowl... but he looked a lot like this when he was younger. I want another I love the reds! I will say when i first got weasley he didn't eat for about 3 weeks I was really stressing about it but once he acclimated he ate like a pig. It is really about finding the one food they can not deny. For weasley it is mango baby food and whole prey items. He will not eat mealworms or supers as a matter of fact the only insect I can get him to eat is crickets and now I don't feed him those (cause it would take a billion to fill him up!) regularly I only give them as a treat. I will say that live crickets in a bath tub will also make his drive to feed kick in. So leave him alone for a little while then take him out put him in the tub and try different things over the next few weeks. You will find what he can't resist it just takes time. Tegus are a test of patience I have come to know this with weasley...

He is very cute. I love it that he has some white on him. It's good to hear that he liked those crickets . Here is some information for you to check out in case you are interested in bulk ordering some feeders.

Is it possible for him to go into hibernation from the transition of the place I bought him to his enclosure now? He is sleeping above the average amount. When he is up, he is alert and healthy. He acts normal, eats normal. Stool is not foul and seems appropriate. Cage temps are normal as with humidity. I don't like to wake him up because he gets angry at me, but it looks like he's dead sometimes. Also, he has a tongue I've never seen before. At the tip it looks to be purple/blue, but the rest is pink. I tried getting a picture but he hates my phone. Any ideas? I know it's only been around four days but I'm much too worried about his health. Possibly more than I should be worried.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new tegu. Judging from those pics it looks fine with a plump tail. It's that time of year for slowing down plus it's adjusting to a new environment. Lack of activity should be expected after a meal since they lounge to digest it. Sometimes it just takes time for them to settle in before they pick or start a new routine.

Since you mentioned that he seems dead when you wake him up then I think he is trying to hibernate. I would leave him alone. Don't worry he will be fine. If he doesn't come out at all within a few days leave the lights off.

He's so weird. He slept almost a full 24 hours one day. Now he's up as usual but it's always at a different time. Usually really late. I stay up with him until 1:30 in the morning sometimes. He lets me touch him now. Any idea what's up with his tongue? Never seen that before.
