Default Leopard Gecko Eating Own Tail??

    biter.jpgbiter2.jpg
Please help my adult female leo! She appears to be trying to eat her tail. A while ago, a mystery bite showed up on her that landed us at the vet. We thought it was my male but today I opened her container to find her biting deeply into her own tail, drawing blood. She had been eating well but refused to do so today. I used some topical and oral antibiotics but.. I don't know what to do. Please help me.

I'm no Leo expert, but seems like she may be missing something from her diet. What exactly are you feeding??

Tail biting could mean a few things I believe. Improper nutrition, when a male is courting a female, and 2 females together in same cage. Any of this sound familiar?

From the pics there is also some paper towel chewing going on.

For this, since I know we don't have any Leo experts (If we do, sorry!) I'm going to have to direct you to another forum I'm on...

There are a few people who can answer this in a heartbeat there!

OMG. I'm so sorry about your Gecko. I have no idea why this is happening. I would contact the Person in the link below. He knows allot about Geckos. Good luck and please keep us posted.

She has either meal worms or crickets, weekly dusted in calcium. She has a lil cup of calcium in her tank. She was in with a male the first time but now she is on her own.

First I thought about her maybe having some stuck on shed. But it wouldn't explain her eating the paper towel. Then I thought about something irritating her skin ( like dogs nibble on their skin it's irritated ) but then I think about the paper towel again. I really hope you will find out what it is.

I've heard of it as a stress reaction. I've also heard that once it starts it can be impossible to stop. :(

I'd separate her from the male ASAP if you haven't already.
