    Default subiedude09's unclosure build thread

    hello everyone,
I will be building an enclosure for my tegu Jazz after lot's n lot's of research and keeping an eye on other peoples progress on there own builds (i thank all who keep up on there progress with pics for others). i will be doing the same and make sure to post lot's of pic's as well as detailed explanations. i hope this thread helps some with there builds

Now, i will be going to the Home Depot tomorrow and pick up ALL of my needed things. its supposed to raain tomorrow so if it does, wed will be the day i pick up my stuff.

    the enclosure will be 7'L x 4'H x 3.5'W

my list of items im buying are:
-enough sheets of plywood (settled with poplar wood)
-enough 2x3's for frame and support beams
-enough 2x2's for second level support/seat and stairs
-3 sheets of plexiglass for front window's (doors will be normal hinged double doors with large windows), and a side window in side wall.
    -door hinges
    -door locks
    -enough tubes of sealant caulk
    -caulk gun
    -some wood glue
    -screws (box of 2 1/2", 1 3/4", and 1/2" wood screws)
-3 vents (1 for each side of enclosure and 1 for the back wall).
    -some tools
-light stand because garage lighting is terrible and i kind of need to see what im doing :P
    -some extension cords
    -some electric timers
    -water based exterior paint
    -water based exterior primer
    -paint supplies
-some slate rock or flat stones for basking
-some small hooks with a screw end for hanging lights on the roof (called cup screws lol)
-some cyprus mulch if they have some
-anddd probably some lunch because ill be hungry after all this shopping lol.

for everyone who has built an enclosure, or knows alot about the process, please be helpful and give me some advice. if something didnt go as planned on your build, please share, id like to hear what you have to say so i wont have to deal with the same 'mistakes'. thank you

If i forgot something on the list you may find i could use, or need, please let me know. im on the forums daily and will respond with a thank you real quick

thank you in advanced for your comment's or suggestion's.

    ***UPDATE***

I purchased everything i need and omg did i go over my budget! i went alittle overboard with pricey wood, paint, electronics, equipment and plexiglass lol. ill have pics up soon of all my stuff and the dreadful reciept. everything all together was $499.xx. im not joking around lol, ill have the pic up later (i get out of work at 11:30).

I'll take as many pics as i can Ripkabird.

im happy this build is finnally happening! Jazz is getting big and im sure she's going to love what i have in mind for her home! i should be marking the plywood up for holes and cuts and very soon ill start building the frame.

i was thinking....my tegu is in a glass 40gal breeder rite now and when this enclosure is done, will be in this 7L x 4H x 3.5W box enclosure with only 2 windows in the doors. i havent seen it done, but im going to make a nice large window on the side wall of the enclosure so she can feel less trapped inside a box. at this end of the enclosure is where the door to my bedroom is so as soon as i walk in the room, i could see her if she is out

pretty much that hole wall will be a window.

just a quick update of what will be happening in the near future!

Good idea on the window. If I had more free space around the side of my cage I would of done the same thing. Check and see if you have any Restores around your area. You can get windows really cheap that way. http://www.habitat.org/restores

im going to cut a square with rounded corners rite in the center of the side wall. roughly 30"H x 18"W. i bought plexy glass which will be drilled from the inside out to cover this hole...which will be the window. this will leave alittle lip on the outside but no lip on the inside so Jazz wont be constently scrzatching at it to get out and pull the wood apart over time. ill have detailed pics up soon enough
