I'm SOOOOOO relieved that they are not going to be put down. Thank you Laura for the information.

No it is not close to Ft. Myers.

I am not defending Bobby and just speculating, really. I think he had to leave his place quickly and couldn't leave with 38 tegus. Having been at a super low point in my life, I can understand how someone can leave everything behind and just run away. It's not a pretty sight. Still no excuse for what he has done. But like tupinambis said, he had such a passion for what he did, Bobby had to have reached some low point in his life to abandon the animals he once adored.

    What a mess.

I think it's very sad to see any man reach that low of a point in their life. No matter what they did or who or what they hurt in the process you still gotta feel for them to some extent. I have had a couple points that were very low in my life when I considered rehoming my tegus because I simply didn't feel like I wanted responsibilities. One of these was rather recently and I am very glad I made the right choice and decided to keep my Gu's and not let myself hit the same kind of low that Bobby is at. I wish there was some way to call him just to show him that people still care.

Sorry, I don't feel for this man. I'll agree he had passion, but to me it wasn't a passion for the tegus, it was....something else. And this has become all too clear in not only what he has done to other people, but to the animals in his care. I too have gone through a very, very bad and low period in my life, and the first thing I have always done is ensure that my animals received care and that I have never scammed anyone. I don't care how bad your life is, how much in debt or other troubles, you NEVER take it out on the innocent, and abandoning animals like this is exactly that - punishing them for something they had nothing to do with. And that is something Mr. Hill has always done - seek to punish others for one thing or another when he feels "slighted". He's always been vindictive, and now we are seeing how far he's willing to take it.

http://www.livescience.com/29186-exo...s-florida.html Apparently he abandon them in the fall when his license to sell them lapsed, authorities say. Before he left the area, he apparently dug dens in his yard for the tegus to retreat to during the winter, which came as a surprise to the new residents.

Thank you for posting the information. It breaks my heart to hear that they found some dead ones, too. I'm very upset with Bobby but I can't imagine what he was going through/felt when he was digging the holes for his Tegus. I also can't believe that the Land Lord didn't notify someone to get those Tegus since he knew they were there and Bobby left.

I agree about the landlord thing. Why didnt he check after he knew his tenant left. And yet allowed other ppl to move in? I feel terrible for Tegus but at least they are finding some.

Yes, I'm very glad, too, that they are finding a lot of them. I really hope they will end up in good hands/homes.

Well, the landlord has to pay the mortgage on the property and probably already lost money when Bobby was having issues. I'm sure he had no choice but to rent.
