OMG. Poor baby. What is the Vet doing for the Prolapse ? I know someone who has a adult Tegu who had a very big Prolapse before, too. He put his Tegu in a big bin. Put a human heat mat in there and a moist T-shirt ( for heat and humidity. The towel is to ruff ). He put Vaseline on the prolapse every day. Thank God it went away and his Tegu was fine. Keep the Prolapse moist and clean.

From my understanding, veterinarians recommend that vaseline should never be used on internal tissues as it is non-sterile and a petroleum based product. Polysporin and similar products would be far far better, or even KY jelly to keep the tissue moist. However, by those photos, the tissue protruding looks quite necrotic and will likely require resectioning. She has a long journey ahead of her.

tupinambis. Thank you for correcting me. I was thinking about the KY.

Tegugurl. I can't believe they let her have this for so many years. Thank God she is still alive. She could of gotten a infection. I really hope all will turn out well for her. I'm going to try to donate something as soon as I can.

Thank you hun anything helps that is for sure this is going to be a lonf process.. It is by far worse of a rescue I have EVER seen.
she has a vet appt set for monday 11:30. The vet is upbeat about helping her. she is in bad shape one of the worse I have seen BY far. Prolapse, MBD, skinny, dehydrated. We got in in she is basking and moving around drinking water. We are not feeding her till she is seen by the vet. sugar and water soaks. and betadine soaks as well. There seems to be alot of dead tissue and it stinks. So she is in quarantine. Here are some new pics of her. As you can see the prolapse photos are before we soaked her. the old owner was housing her on birdseed . So it is kinda hard to get it all off of her as well. We will be doing a blood panel xrays to find out how she got this. either parasite or blockage maybe.DSCF0418.jpgDSCF0421.jpgDSCF0422.jpgDSCF0423.jpgDSCF0427.jpg

Your welcome. This is the worst prolapse I have ever seen, too. I never seen one so dirty and dried out. It would be very hard to do a surgery because the Tegu is so unhealthy ( weak/skinny ). Ask you Vet if you can give the Tegu some Pedialyte mixed in with the drinking water. Since the Pedialyte has the electrolytes in it it will help with the hydration better than just regular water. Also ask you Vet if you can give the Tegu some stage one chicken baby food. This will give your Tegu some strength because of the protein. I don't want to tell you what to do. But I recommend putting a old clean T-shirt or some clean old bed sheets on top of the towel. The towel might be a bit rough on the prolapse and can be irritating that area.
