I've got a 160W MVB for my red tegu. I've noticed that the temperature doesn't get much above 90, which is way too cold. But I've read that they should be about 18" away. So what do I do? Lower the bulb? Supplement with an extra heat lamp?

when i had my tegu in a 40gal breeder tank with a screen lid, i had the same problem. i added a basking light of 100w and it made a nice 108-110* basking spot. i had the two lights side by side with the MVB closer to the middle so if my tegu went to the cold side, she would still get alittle uv rays.

It also helps if you duct tape some aluminum foil on the screen top to keep more of the heat inside the enclosure. You can try to lower it a bit.
Rich is not how much you have, or where you are going, or what you are.Rich is who you have beside you.

MVB? Is it a Powersun? You can lower it if it is a Powersun, their UVB output is horribly low.
