Thread: Tegu plants?

  1. #1

    Question Tegu plants?

    Hey everyone!

I am currently in the process of building an enclosure for my tegu, and I was thinking about maybe having some live plants growing in the enclose, to give it more of a natural feel. I was wondering what kind of plants would work best for this; both for looks, and for the health of the animal, or if I should even bother! (I've heard some gu's will rip the plants right out). So, any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi columbianb&w. I stopped putting plants in the enclosures a long time ago. They always messed them up. The hibiscus is non toxic and the flowers are addible. With the ficus three you have to be a bit careful. I read that it's non toxic until the animal chews on the leaves. The leaves are toxic. Here are some non toxic plants to check out if you like.

Haha, ok. Maybe plants aren't the right way to go. Do you have any suggestions for making the place look pretty? I've seen a lot of videos and pictures where people will use bark, and slate, and all kinds of stuff. What are your thoughts?
