    Default uva/uvb

    Hello all. I've been searching for an answer to my question for a day or so and haven't had any luck. So here we go. Oh btw. New tegu owner. I have had my Arg. red hatchling (Nova) for about three weeks now. I am running two compact uvb bulbs in Nova 's enclosure. my question is how important is uva light to my little buddy. I want to make sure i got Nova"s enclosure correct seeing how he/she is a growing gu and needs to develop properly. Thanks

    Hi. It is very important for Nova to get the UVA/UVB. I recommend getting the Zoo Med Power Sun. It's all in one ( heat, UVA/UVB ). Sine Tegus bask for the most part Nova will benefit the most of this kind of bulb. Here are some other infos for you to check out if you like. Hope this helps. How is he/she doing ?

    I know it important for nova to get uvb. But I haven't seen anything about Uva. I have 10.0 compact uvb for the main area and a 5.0uvb in her basking area with a heat emitter which stays between 105 and 110. I wouldn't mind getting a mercuryvapor bulb. But I would prefer not to if I do not need one. Thanks for the help

    Default uva/uvb

    All compact uvb are crap. I have tested a lot of uvb bulbs and all compact give almost the same uvb as a normale stripe bulb for human use.

    Top 3 best uv:
    1. Solar Raptor (only sold in europe by a German company econlux)
    1ft = 400+ uw/cm2
    2. Bright sun uv (sold all over the world)
    1ft = 200+ uw/cm2
    3. Powersun and Megaray (amost the same output)
    1ft = 70+ uw/cm2 (for animals with alower uvb need)

    I also dit some tests in severale coutries. It looks like that the uw/cm2 all over the world is around 200 till over 400 on clear days. Also i tested uv percentage that reptile skins let trough and from tegu that is very low. Specialy with argetine tegu. So they also need more uvb to absorbe enough.
    Best is to keep tegu outside in the real sun becouse even the best uvb bulbs do not give what the real sun can give. That also has to do with uva and uvi and other things we can not copy from the sun.
