Default Interest in Pre-made/Frozen Tegu Diet Meatballs?

    Hello All,

I'm fairly new to the Tegu community, and have been mainly lurking on different forums to soak up as much info as i can, since getting my first Black and White Argentine.

I've spent the last few months investigating tegu meatballs Sourcing a good mix of ingredients, working out the consistency so they hold together, and testing out different preparation equipment (burnt out a number of blenders ), etc...

I know that everyone seems to have a slight variation on what the "right" mix of meats, vegetables, fruits, vitamins, calcium, etc.. is.

My question to the community is, would there be interest in buying pre-made/frozen meatballs? Would be as good, or better ingredients and variety than you currently feed your tegu, and would be pre-made ready to eat (after thawing).

i was thinking of having three different types of standard meatballs(varying amounts of meat/fruits/vegetables), and then if you subscribed for reoccurring orders, or bought a larger quantity, would make them custom to your specs.

Just wanted to pass the idea by some people, and would be looking to work with a few interested Beta/Taste testers if there was interest.

Thanks for all the great info and discussion in this forum!

Will discuss more about ingredients, pricing, etc... down the road if this is something that makes sense.

    -Dan

Kind of interested, wouldn't need them for a few months since my tegu is only a hatchling and is easy to feed, but this could come in handy later on. Also I live kinda close, about 2 hours away, live near the big casinos in Connecticut.

Hi Dan. Welcome to our Tegu forum family. I think it's a good idea. I'm sorry that I wouldn't get any because we bulk buy the food and I put it into portions and then put it into the reptile freezer ( it's a freezer just for our lizards ). I use the Ninja blender and I haven't had any problems with it. I don't want to tell you what to do. But I highly recommend getting a food saver machine. Because if you just put your product into ziploc bags they can get some freezer burn and loose some of the nutritional values. If you want to you can also try to sell them on your local Craigslist.com or/and on ebay. I also recommend making some videos on how you make the meatballs and how you will ship them. Then put the videos on youtube. It's just a thought. Good luck with it.

The issue for me is the shipping required for frozen. If it is a healthy mix, it could be a good idea for local pick up.

@Tyler137 Thanks for your interest! I'm often in Branford and North Stonington during the weekends, so i'm often in your neck of the woods.

@laurarfl Definitely understand the bummer that is frozen shipping costs. I've done a lot of buying of frozen rodents online, and have felt that pain. I'm doing lots of investigation on cost effective carriers and ways of shipping frozen, getting dry ice, etc.. Since i'm in the New England area, and go to most of the NY,NJ,MA,NH, etc.. shows I'd be able to deliver to those reptile shows, or have it picked up from my location as well. Thanks for your feedback!

@txrepgirl Thank you for the warm welcome and response! Your feedback is spot on. I buy in bulk as well, with a large chest freezer for storing our tegu and python food in. The plan is to vacuum pack and seal the bags to help prevent freezer burn. The video idea is great as well. I'll definitely record the process for the next batch that i make.

I realize that the product (more of a preparation and shipping service) won't be for everyone, but if it helps to lower the amount of effort/time/tools required by tegu owners to raise the bar on a healthy and varied diet, i think its a win and worth trying. Kind of going with a rough slogan, of something like "Get out of the kitchen and back to playing with your Tegu"

I should have a site up by the end of Sept with video, ingredients, etc...

Any additional feedback/ideas/interest is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Good idea and ditto on shipping. Would work for anyone close by though. Use seasonal fruits and veggies to help with costs. Most people wouldn't mind a break from food preps and mixing sometimes. Which is just one reason why f/t is so popular. Plus variety is the spice of life, diet related or not .

You are very welcome Dan . Thank you ( about my feedback ). Sounds like you are off to a great start. Maybe you could have a store on facebook, too. I saw on TV that a woman started to sell kids cloths and made very good money with it. It's better to try out the idea that you have then always wonder what if. I wish you the best.
