    Default Fungal???

So I have a younger black and white tegu, that wasn't in the best of shape when I got her. I thought she had a shedding problem, looked like some stuck skin on her tail. She has been buried under the mulch for a few weeks now and hasn't been eating for some time. I figured she was starting to hibernate, although it seemed a little early. I dug her out this weekend and I now see that the spots I thought were stuck skin may have been some sort of a fungal infection!!!!! You can see where the scales are pulling off down to the white skin underneath! Not sure what to do. No vets around that do reptiles. I was hoping that if somebody else has had this problem and used a prescription that worked, then maybe I can ask for the same thing at my local vet.

Hi reddawg. Welcome back. Yes, photos would help ( please ). I would clean the are of the infected area and put some panalog ointment on it. The vets also call this the liquid gold because it can be used for a lot of different things ( like nose rub ) and it doesn't expire ( I love this product ). I also would make sure that the mulch on the bottom of the enclosure isn't to wet. This doesn't just cause or can cause a fungus infection but also a upper respiratory infection. Here is some information for you to check out if you like. Please keep us posted.

Panalog: You can get it as a cream or a yellow liquid.

Get her to a Vet, there are none here. Even if there was, she would still need a physical exam and possibly some diagnostics to determine exactly what kind of infection she has, whether it's contagious and can be passed to people or other animals and will also determine what kind of medication she needs to clear it up. There are Herp Vets in Arizona, even if you have to drive some hours to get to one, that's what she needs.

Here are a couple of pictures. If they work...I gave her a good warm soaking and set up a hospital type cage, with no sub straight so the wound will stay clean. I was letting her go to sleep for the winter but now I'll start to warm her up and see if I can keep her from going down. I covered the area on her tail with and antibiotic ointment.

Wow. I haven't seen this before. At least not this big. I would go to a vet right away. Thank you for posting the photos.

Any updates on this. I noticed my tegu has the same thing going on she has been buried in the mulch for most of the past few weeks and it has been very wet outside. Moving her inside to treat her with ointment, keep dry and maybe antibiotics. Will update with results.
