    Default tegu clicking noises

So I have a year abd half old tegu that is roughly 1 1/2 years old and about 2.5 ft. I recently started believing he was a she bc I haven't felt any BBs yet and doesn't really show any jowls. However today when I gave her a bath she's tried to get out and climbed on my lap I put get back in. She then preceded too make clicking noises and move her throat. Could this be jowl popping or something else? I know only males do the popping. 1393864471026.jpg1393864722022.jpg

I'm not sure if the clicking noise is normal without seeing it ( like in a video ). They usually do the throat movement in the breeding season ( like our Leonidas did in the video below ). We have a male b/w Tegu whose jowls are a bit small for a male, too, but has the bb's. I can't see any bb's on your Tegu. Did your Tegu ever hibernate ? When they hibernate they mature a bit slower than if they don't hibernate. When she is pooping did you see any hemipenes come out or did you see any sperm plugs ?

Yea she/he hibernated both years. First year from October to April and this year November to mid February. And I have never seen sperm plugs or his hemipenis.

Since your Tegu hibernated both years it will take a bit longer for him/her to mature. Time will tell if your Tegu is a he or she. Does your Tegu make the clicking noise all the time or just sometimes ? Sometimes when they are shedding and there is some shed stuck on the nostrils they make that noise. If he/she isn't shedding right now please put your ear by his/her nose and see if the clicking comes from the mouth or the nose. Sometimes when they have upper respiratory infection they make that clicking noise. How high is the humidity ? Do you stir up the mulch every so often so it doesn't get to wet on the bottom of the enclosure ?

I've only seen it in the bath after it wants to get out. And yea she's starting to go through a shed right now.

Since your Tegu doesn't do it all the time I wouldn't worry about it.
