    Default Cage building confusion

Hello all. Haven't been here in quite awhile. I'm finally getting my first gu this year and I'm going to be building either a 7x4 or 8x4 depending on the space left in the bedroom of the new apartment I'm moving to. I've never built anything and I've been reading up on constructing enclosures and what others have used but I'm still kinda confused on a few things. I was going to seal the inside of the enclosure with Drylok but I've read where some people used caulk and I was wondering is it needed or is a couple coats of Drylok alone fine?

Another question I have is how do you mount light fixtures inside the enclosure? I wanted to mount a few zoo-med porcelain fixtures inside the enclosure.

Last question, I've read somewhere that all of the wood has to be pre-drilled before the enclosure is put together?

Hi Amur. Welcome back. I'm sorry for taking so long to reply to your questions. Here are some videos and information for you to check out hope it helps. It is very important that the wood is entirely seals. I would use the drylok to keep the wood from molding because of the high humidity in the enclosure. The caulk is for sealing the corner.

It's easier to pre-drill everything first because the areas where you want to drill is easier to reach then after you put the enclosure together. I recommend putting a vent ( link below ) in the enclosure to where you can control the humidity. It is also very important to stir up the mulch every so often so the mulch doesn't get to wet on the bottom. If it's to wet your Tegu could get a upper respiratory infection. Please make sure that you are able to open and close the vent.

If you use melamine you don't need to use the drylok.

It would be good if you could find a humidifier that you can set on what humidity you want it on so it doesn't get to wet in there.

Rich is not how much you have, or where you are going, or what you are.Rich is who you have beside you.

Thank you for your help I have a question with Melamine. I'm starting to read that a lot of people don't use it with tegus because if water gets in the seams, it'll swell up and ruin the cage? I was going to seal it with Aquarium silicone and attach slate tile to the basking area. I hear Melamine is really heavy so I was going to add casters/wheels so it's easier to move.
