Default Advice on substrate best for all round and ease of cleanliness

Okay, so I have read about and seen/used different substrates...
I used coconut husk - both types
The one that's fine like soil is decent, messy but somewhat easy to spot clean
the chopped version is tougher to clean as the chunks of coco hide feces

What do you guys use/suggest for all around good husbandry/cleaning
    Has anyone tried shredded paper?

    I have a 6 foot vision cage

I have been using Cypress mulch for many years now. I like it because it holds the humidity very well. But it's hard to spot clean. I'm thinking to switching over to potting soil ( No Miracle Grow, just dirt ) and Sphagnum/Peat Moss. Maybe also put some Hay in it. I do not recommend using paper. You would have to use a substrate that you can mist down and it holds humidity. Cedar and Pine or Aspen is toxic.

I have heard of many people using cypress... but how do you really clean it well?
Fine soil/coco, to me, makes spot cleaning not only easier, but more effective with ridding of feces faster, but I don't know how well humidity hold in comparison

Most of the time our Tegus and other lizards poop in either the cat litter tub filled with water in their enclosures or in the bath tub. It is very rare that they poop on the mulch. If they do I spot clean it with a bag ( like in the link below ). I really like the way cypress mulch hold humidity. I do not recommend using paper to put in the enclosure because it doens't hole humidity. I was thinking maybe switching over to top soil and sphagnum moss. Please make sure what ever you use doesn't have any chemicals in it like miracle grow. Cedar and Pine or Aspen ( I always get those two mixed up ) are toxic.

    Elaborate on this please!
Do they just instinctually do it in there?
    Pictures?
    Why filled with water?
What if they attempt to drink?
    Thanks

They like to go into the litter box filled with water to take a bath. When they soaked for a while in the water they go poop in it. I also have a heavy ceramic dish in the enclosure for them to drink some fresh water out of it.
