Hi merianae. Welcome back. Long time no see. I'm sorry for the late reply. Hope all is well. Wow, 11 years old. That is a great age. Our Leonidas and Zeus are our two oldest. They are 9 years old.

Thank you txrepgirl. He is starting to have some health issues including some age related spondylosis and poss renal issues. I need to get him in for an ultrasound guided biopsy. I haven't seen too much info on their longevity in captivity. More responses would be welcome.
    Thanks again!

Ripper, my male Argentine, is also 11 and going strong. I haven't heard much either about longevity.

11 nice! Bosco is my oldest and he is 9 and doing amazingly. One of the guys in my area runs a reptile rescue and he says that 15 is kind of normal base on what he has seen.

I'll reprint part of a post that tupinambis authored (thanks, tupinambis), which is relevant here. I don't know how to actually bring in quotes from another thread, so I'll do it old school.

    tupinambis:
"As for longevity...I don't think there's a good value for that yet to truly say. The problem with most captive tegus is they are overfed and under-exercised, which would lead to shortening of life. In the wild, well, life is hard and they still likely wouldn't live that long. I don't see why a tegu can't reach 20 years if properly cared for, but I don't have anything to really back that up."
