There is no way to visually sex a juvenile argentine black and white tegu. You can visually sex them between the age of 2 and 3. Before that, it's probing or ultra sound. If, and it's a pretty big if, they happen to flash their hemipenes before they are of age, then yes, you can sex them that way but at 2 months old, you don't really have a choice. Probing by a reptuable herp vet or ultra sound. Probing is not 100% accurate.

Yah, im not one for probing...lizards OR snakes for that matter. Seems to painful...lol. Its not a big deal but i kinda want to get another one but i dont want to end up having to males and them fighting and such. Guess ill wait for 3 years to role by. Is mine the right size for a tegu. hes about 15-16 inchs long...and he eats like a horse! i feed him all last week but i think ill start feeding him mon, wed, fri.

Tegus grow at different rates. Mine is 16" and is about 10 weeks old. She is a bit smaller than most of her clutch mates. She is a healthy weight and ate well up until she decided to hibernate. Do not feed hatchlings/juveniles three times a week. They need to eat every day.

A good feeding schedule recommended by Rick is:

    Day one: Mouse/fruit
    Day two: Insects/fruit
    Day three: Turkey/fruit.

Even if your tegu is not readily accepting fruit, offer it daily. It is much easier to get them to eat fruit when they are young and they do NEED fruit in their diet.

Since I am not breeding, sex of my tegu doesn't matter to me either; however, I will have her probed by my reptile vet in the spring but I trust my reptile vet. He is excelent and is an honest to goodness REPTILE VET.

Do you have pics of your baby?

Find the direct URL to the picture you want to post.

    Example:

    http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-...Picture023.jpg

Then simply click on the Img button on the top of your post, c/p the direct URL to the picture you want to post, then click on the Img button on the top of your post again.

    Example:

Voila, you've inserted a picture into your post. There is a thread titled Photo Album Request. Post your request for a www.thetegu.com photo album and one of the admin (Rick or Diegar) will create a photo album for you)

The picture I inserted into this post is not my tegu. This is Hannibal, a yearling Argentine Black and White belonging to Diegar. I took the picture and it's by far my favorite picture of a tegu so far
