Thread: Golden Tegu picture, Argentine or Columbian?

  1. #1

Default Golden Tegu picture, Argentine or Columbian?

Went to the ontario reptile expo today.

I asked the guy behind the counter where it was from. He was not sure. The lady beside him said, umm..... Africa? I laughed. Then another onlooker who was looking at snakes speaks up and says, um... thailand? The guy I originally asked where it was from says, yeah, thailand thats right, you should be behind the counter not me. He was being serious. So I tried not to laugh. I took a picture just for kicks, even held the tegu. He was not aggressive but he had nothing keeping him warm except the ambient air temp of 75.

I'm thinking columbian. Am I correct?

Heres a argentine black and white I had my eye on. I'm not sure if thats what I want though. I definetly don't want a columbian tegu.

Sorry its a poor quality picture, behind glass.

If you do not want a Columbian, do not buy a Gold Tegu, because they generally have the same behavior...fast and more agressive than Argentine Tegu.

If you want to start with a Tegu, buy a Captive Bred Argentine Black and White Tegu.

if you did not or do not have a colombian tegu you should not say negative things about them because of what you hear
alot of reptiles/animals can be fast and aggresive
you should take your time and love for all

lol calm down, I am not giving a bad name to columbian. I did not say that they are not tamable, I am just saying that they are generally harder to tame.

And, it's not because somebody do not have a columbian Tegu, that he do not know anything about it. I read a lot about them, and most of the time, I receive bad comment about them.

Of course we can have a good and sweet columbian, but If somebody ask for an opinion or choice about them, I will recommand an Argentine than a Columbian.

Yes, It's cool to hear to some people have a tame columbian. Because it gives some encouragement for people to tame one.

I am going to buy a Argentine Tegu soon, I will see his interaction with me, if it's good like I want, In 4-5 years, I will buy a Red Tegu,Water or argus monitor.

Sorry if I do not write well in English or my post was a bit hard to understand, I am french
