The only thing that can stand out from distinct naming is color and crossing not size

For Varnyard, its a chocoan. For Rick, a WhiteHead. I don't know which one of them is right. But I look at some photo of the ''chocoan'' Tegu on Varnyard site. I have to admit that I am a bit confuse. They truly look bigger than a so call ''original'' or ''normal'' black and white Tegu. 8O

I guess that both of them (called Tupinambis Marianae) can have the same behavior and temperament.

However, I hope that this little guy will bring joy to you worldeater

I read that chocoan is an actual species white head would be a nick name for chocoan but. I also read that a true chocoan is a almost solid white.

example: more comon tegus are white on black where the chocoan should be more black on white.

White head blues would be closer to the true chocoan species in my opinian but the one picture Rick has displayed under his white head looks like it would be a true chocoan. If you click and expand it you can seehow much white it has.

Yes, I think that Whitehead and Chocoan are the same. But it seems that each breeder have his opinion. I also readed about a Black Head Tegu. I saw some picture of them, they are beautiful just like whitehead.

But the funny thing, is that both of them Whitehead, and Black and white Tegu have the same scientific name (tupinambis Marianae) but they don't have the same size. I should ask Rick for more information about it.

That is a good question. but there is a slite differance in the species you can tell the differance between the two for example the blue is a smaller species and a little differant looking if you see tegus every day you can tell the differance in pattern, size, stripes, I am not a tegu expert and will never claim to be but I know that there is a differance between the two. We should ask Rick, I am not sure but he might have them labeled in his gallery but I could be wrong.

    Tupinambis duseni – Yellow Tegu
    Tupinambis longilineus – Rondônia Tegu
Tupinambis merianae – Argentine Black and White Tegu (formerly T. teguixin)
    Tupinambis quadrilineatus – Four-striped Tegu
    Tupinambis palustris
    Tupinambis rufescens – Red Tegu
Tupinambis teguixin - blue tegu :?:

ok, here is my take on it:

tupinambis merianae - black & white arg. and the chacoan or giant tegu
tupinambis merianae - is a blue tegu one time thought to be a tupinambis teguixin.
tupinambis teguixin - black & white or gold colombian
tupinambis refescens - arg. red tegu
    tupinambis:
    quadrilimeatus - four striped tegu
    palustris - no common name
    duseni - yellow tegu
    longelineus - rondona

Chacoan refers to the locale the animal is from. it is possible to have a black & white or red from the Chaco region.

White Heads Tegus were caught in Tanti, Argentina known as Tanti. Tanti is not a part of the Chaco range.
