    Default White jumping wood mites?

    umm, just found a buttload of white mites that jump in my hatchlings tank, a little smaller than fleas, are they a kindof wood mites? they're white and jump. seem bigger than the mites i had before.

    any thoughts?

    came in with the mulch right ? I sometimes get these with mulch as long as they are white ...ok. if they are red that means they are sucking blood.

    you know you can either bake it or put it in a black trash bag with no holes and tie tight and leave in the sun or just change it.

    yea, i'll have to.

    allmost started a fire last time i tried to steralize cypress......

    to tell you the truth, I just leave them. 'if' they happen to go on one of the tegus they just 'ping' right off.
    but I flip the mulch constantly and keep an eye on things.

    Hey Worldeater,
    Because they are jumping, I would say that you have springtails (Collembola) and not mites. Collembola are non-insect hexapods and they eat decomposing organic matter. Some tarantula keepers use them in high humidity enclosures to control fungal and mite infestations.

    lol thats exactly what they are!



    seems like they might be kinda benificial!

    lol, i might transfer some to my main inclosure, as i spilt a bit of chik feed in their and i'm afraid of it molding from the humidity.
