Snails are an excellent staple item. They have calcium, protein and are loaded with goodness. Having them breed is the way to go. Genrally to be safe some people will seperate the parents after eggs are laid so the babies dont come in contact with adults and possibly pick up any pathogens they had. Some will do the same with the babies after they grow up and produce and repeat the process, thus having two generations of captive bred before starting to use the colony as feeders to make sure they are clean.
