    I agree with nordica. The tail is a living part of his body and includes the spinal column -- the nerves and fluids in the core of the tail have a direct line to the brain of the animal. This is no place for a well-meaning amateur to mess around. If you are concerned, definitely go to a vet who can more knowledgeably assess the situation and advise on what would be best for your pet.
