And I love that music -- was that a Japanese version of The Big Valley?

    That's where I grew up!

Ha! This is interesting. I listened to the Magnificent Seven theme (I love The Seven Samurai but had not seen the remake) I thought:

    a) it's very familiar, but I haven't seen this movie, and
    b) I still hear The Big Valley Theme, almost inside out, as the melodic passages between the big rhythmic downbeats (sorry, my musical knowledge is poor; I know these are not correct technical terms).

So I searched a little, and that very familiar tune, with less Japanese strings, is the theme music for Marlborough cigarette commercials. I heard this quite heavily growing up, which hopefully most members here were spared. The ads, not growing up.

But the Marlborough cowboy is not what I was associating with The Big Valley, an old TV show about ranch life in old Central California. The themes sound similar side-by-side. It turns out that the composer of The Magnificent Seven theme, Elmer Bernstein, is credited as one of three composers of The Big Valley theme.

That version in your video, with just slightly different strings and harmonica, and that karaoke-lounge electric percussion, makes the classic western anthem sound very Japanese modern!

So, sorry to hijack your post with this trivia.
