I think it's a very nice looking gold Colombian. I love the colors! Keep doing what you're doing as far as taming and handling. It will come, but the jumpiness might not disappear until he gets a bit older and isn't so far down on the food chain.
Here are my two adult Colombians. They are quite handleable, but like to huff at me still. I actually find it charming.

count scales between the nose and eye. Columbian's have one scale and Argentinian's have two. This is a pic of my Argentinian with the area you should look at circled.

hwo u cnt even see how can ya see how mnay mine has lol
its too far away:P
I think she is just going by the general look. There are other ways to tell if you are very experienced with tegus as she is. Such as the coloring and the shape of the head. I am just giving you the easiest way. If you want to post a close up of the side of your tegu's head then we can confirm. But I think she is right.

years of looking at tegus and owning both kinds.
What Vegas-Lizard posted is the loreal scale count. It is accurate most of the time even though there are sometimes exceptions. But honestly, even with a far away and sort of blurry picture, that is obviously a T. teguixin. The body type, head shape, body type, gold color, and speckling pattern make it very clear. I may not be able to describe it like a professional herpetologist. Here are some other pictures. It's like being ably to tell the difference between a veiled and jackson's chameleon, or an alligator and a crocodile...just really obvious. Google images of gold tegus and Argentine tegus and you start to see the difference. Gold tegus have a angular head vs a rounded snout, they have more speckled color especially around the tail, a different look about the eyes, patterned color vs white around the snout, and they seem to have a more rounded vs rectangular body to me. Plus, Argentines aren't in the pet market in that lovely gold color like yours has. He's gorgeous!

I think your pretty modest. That was a very thorough explanation. Besides, an actual herpetologist probably would have used words none of us would understand and leave a newbie completely confused. LOL

Vegas-Lizard, that's a nice thing to say, thanks.
Boozer, that's not cheating, it's the observation through experience that makes it easy to see the difference. It just jumps out at you after a while.
