    Default new enclosure issues

I was thinking of using cypress mulch in zilla's new cage and and adding another type of substrate to the mulch to mix it up a little. Any ideas? Also the logs at the pet store that are the right size for zilla are far two expensive, $50 a pop and I need about five to make him a basking spot. Any ideas to solve that problem?

    Thanks.

Hmmmm... I would say that if you're looking for inexpensive logs, try heading to your nearest forest with a trusty chainsaw or ax. Or you might try visiting some lumber mills or other things of that nature. I've sometimes seen plant nurseries use them for showcasing displays. Or perhaps try a local Christmas tree farm. I'm not really sure where else to look...

There's a guy that posts on our local craigslist who sells reptile logs made from old vine grape roots. They are gnarly and great to look at, but you'd be lucky to find one that could be hollowed out. They sell for $1 per inch; more if you by multiples. You might check for something like that where you live.

    Alright thanks

To Pikey: Man you have me confused, I suppose I fell "out of the loop" when I was moving. I've been seeing those threads "Trio's cage up for sale". What are you up to? building seperate cages or what...

Also does anyone have any thoughts on my idea of mixing cedar mulch with like potting soil?

    thanks

Yes i too moved to a smaller place but with a nice big back yard (where the out side pen is)
but yes i plan on building 6x3x2 hibernation cages indoors but need to get rid of my awesome cage to make the room i need for the wall of cages

& i used Top soil, sand, & mulch mix for my li'l ones cage and she loved it, it's hard to clean it all out when it's time to clean
i'd mix 4 parts dirt : 1 sand : 8 parts mulch (i think thats how i mixed it).... but as you mix it you'll figure out the consistency that you like

I use a mix of soil and hummus and have never had a problem with is so far, plus I think it's looks good. I can recommend both of the materials if you want to mix them in. I don't see the benefits of using cypress though.
