    Do not use cedar! it is poisonous to reptiles. I use a mix of coconut husk fiber that gives me a nice substrate that can hold lots of moisture. Peat moss mixed with a coarse coconut husk mulch would also work well if that would be easier to find where you live. cypress mulch is ideal but it is very expensive to buy in Oregon where I am from so I use other things.

    Ooops didn't mean to get everyone exited, Pikey was right I meant cypress. Thats pretty cool isdrake I like your idea.
    I did use coconut husk (zoo-med) and I loved it. I estimated it would be at least $100 to use coconut husk for the new cage (if I bought from zoo-med, which is my only option if I want husk.)
