    Default odd appetite

Zilla has been trying to eat his stool (which has been pretty runny for a while) and when I tried to stop him he got a little defensive so I had to remove him while I cleaned. the temps are normal and his appetite and growth are great. So does anyone know why he is trying to eat his stool and why it is runny?

Usually they try to eat the stool if there is a lack of something in their diet. The stool can be runny if they have a parasite problem or if the Tegu is being fed to much of the raw food. Like raw chicken/turkey meat, fish, fruits. How often do feed him the rodents ? Try to feed him some rodents this helps to bring the stool back to normal. How often do you put the calcium and vitamine powder on the food ?

Adding fiber to the diet can help too. Fruit may make the stool runnier because of the liquid content, but a 1/4 teaspoon of plain metamucil added to food will firm it up. I have found that eggs make my tegus have runny stools.

A high protein content makes stool appealing to animals like dogs who like to eat cat feces. Cats have a higher protein diet so their stool is appealing to dogs. None of my tegus have been stool eaters, but my male will eat his sperm plugs. Now that's weird.

Alright I'll change his diet some and I'll see if that helps. I doubted it was parasites from the start.

    Thanks
