I know since this is a video it should be under show and tell but since it is about Roaches I thought it would be better to post it on here.

OMG. What cricket virus. I have been feeding my All Americans the crickets for a while now. Why do they sell them if there is a virus going around ?

its okay don't freak out im 95% positive that the virus only effects the crickets themselves. I'm working on converting my animals to roaches entirely. I just bought a pair of hissers last night from a local pet shop. And I went to check on them around midnite and the were mating.
Roaches are the "wave of the future" they have a longer "shelf life" then crickets (crickets live a couple weeks and roaches live for years), and they are just tougher then crickets. Some of my animals have been hard to convince that dubia roaches are food. It took my pixie frog a couple minutes (record time) to snatch up the roach. I'm happy for Ian though good vid.

Ohh sorry the virus wont hurt the herps, it's just killing the crickets in mass amounts, Ghann's Crickets might go under by the end of the year. A few others too there has been one in the south east that already closed shop for good. I was reading they killed all their stock cleaned the entire place, waited like 3 months, started all over with new stock, & with in 3 months they were starting to die all over again.

From what i understand it's a mutated strain of the virus that hit Europe in the late 90's early 2000's

The enigma. I'm sorry if I'm heated up a bit right now but please don't tell me I shouldn't freak out. I didn't know that the virus can't hurt my pets. I think that if it comes to my family or my pets it's OK to freak out if it's something that could harm them. If there is a member here on the forum who doesn't know much about Tegus yet and the Tegu doesn't want to eat for a few days, you don't hear me tell them they shouldn't freak out.

Sorry I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just trying to let you know every thing is fine. I meant it with the best and kindest intentions possible.
When I say don't freak out It (to me) is the same as saying everything is okay. It is just the way I talk. Sorry for the mis understanding.

I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding, too :( . I'm also sorry for letting of some steam on you. I have to admit that when I'm worried about my loved ones ( family, pets, friends ) there are times that I do over react. I can't help it. After I just read your post again I understood what you meant ( before reading your last post ). Thank you for telling me that things are OK .

    Its all good

While The cricket virus may not affect our pets I think it will affect our wallets. As crickets become more scarce the price will rise. At a local reptile specialty store near me I used to pay about $15 for 500 crickets now I pay about $20. The word needs to get out about The value of roaches as feeder insects. The thing that many people don't realize is that Dubia (and hissing) roaches can feed anything from a Tegu all the way down to a tree frog (the tree frog would eat nymphs of course)
And maybe most importantly how easy Roaches are to keep.
