Default itching his head with hind feet

today is the first day I have noticed him ever doing this... he cranks his body in half and vigorously itches his head with his hin claws.
He is about to shed because the scales around his mouth started popping off this morning. I gave him a long bath and his tank is plenty humid, but the back of his neck really seems to be itching him.

Does anybody else's tegu itch behind his ear with the hind legs? He looks like a dog

Hernando does that also to help himself shed. I'm always afraid he'll get a toenail in his ear or eye. Soaking and extra humidity will help him, and if he seems to like it you can rub the top of his head. Careful not to snag into any scales not yet ready to pop off.

You can also help your tegu by providing a variety of stones and clean branches that he can rub himself on. If you think the hind leg scratching is cute, wait till you see him acting like a cat greeting a stranger who dislikes cats! We experimented a bit with stones and realized that our ah-ah lava rock made us too nervous because it was so sharp, and a cinder block similarly seemed to pose a hazard. You have to kind of find the ideal weight, size, and surface texture that will help them and not give them too much opportunity to hurt themselves.

All I can say is, "ditto." I think it's cute, too. When my ig does it, it's super cute because he has such big feet.
