Default Drylok before or after stain/paint

I will be building a larger cage in the coming month, and I would like to put some kind of safe stain or finish on the wood to make it look nice. Should I coat the wood in drylok or some other sealant before or after staining? Or does staining/finishing protect the wood from moisture in the same fashion as a product like drylok. Carpentry noob here Thank you for the input!

Definitely stain/paint prior to sealant. Some sealants will have trouble curing if mixed with paints.

Edit: some paints have trouble sticking to sealant as well. So yea sealant LAST

I'm a little confused - you've said two different things.
